GA design

The card room at Matunga Gymkhana has an area of 1660 sft. The design intent was to create a card room which was aesthetically pleasing and reflected a card room ambience. The layout was designed so as to create a cut off area which would give a certain degree of privacy and would serve as an entrance reception area which leads to the card room. The material pallet therefore was basically in earthen tones with a wooden floor, veneer panelling and soft shades of beige colour. Beige travertine marble has been used in certain areas on the wall to create a rich look and the entire beigepallet is contrasted with a dash of rust colour wall offsetting the window areas. The ceiling had structural beams and was designed considering them to achieve maximum height in the area between the beams. Indirect lighting in the ceiling and vertical surfaces behind the curtain pelmets creates a pleasing aesthetic.This reception area has an interesting backdrop of tinted mirror embossed with card motifs in gold.

The terrace of the Gymkhana is used by the members for several different get together occasions. It was important that the terrace had effective lighting design to create a pleasing ambience during the evening hours. The terrace is designed with matt finish grey tiles, black granite and a lot of indirect lighting on textured surfaces creating an interesting play in light and shadow.
